AGM Sermon 7 November - Beware the Blame Game

AGM Service 7 November - The Opening Message

Welcome to all participating here at St Michael’s church in Tilehurst in Reading and to friends beyond Reading, including in Germany, joining by watching this service as it is streamed by YouTube. First, a greeting from Düsseldorf

Dear brothers and sisters in Reading,

We send you our warmest greetings from Düsseldorf! For your AGM-service this year we decided not to rely on technical equipment but be assured that in our hearts and prayers we remain closely connected with you.

We look back with gratitude on our visit to Reading this year. The theme of migration deeply moved and inspired us. In a time when so many people are searching for home, safety, and community, it was truly encouraging to experience how our shared faith builds bridges – across borders, languages, and cultures. Those days in Reading proved again how lively and fruitful our partnership is, and how much we can learn from one another.

We are very much looking forward with joy to next year, when you will visit us in Düsseldorf. In a way we plan to take up this year’s subject in a different way and hope to be able to look into the situation of migrant churches in Düsseldorf. We have started to talk to people who have found a new home here in our city, people who brought their faith with them and practice it in Düsseldorf, e.g. the Copts and other denominations.

We hope to see many of you in Düsseldorf. For now, we wish you God’s blessings, good health, and strength for all that lies ahead. May the Lord strengthen your community and keep you in His care – today and always.

With heartfelt greetings and in faith,

Your brothers and sisters from Düsseldorf
